Blokker Terror

One of the Dutch branches of Blokker in Hengelo, neighbouring town of Enschede, has literally been destroyed by a raging fire last night. Blokker is one of the biggest sellers of primarily domestic articles in The Netherlands. Thankfully there were no injuries, but the material damage is huge.

As you can imagine it's the story of the street right now in Twenthe, especially since this is already the 11th branch of Blokker in The Netherlands and Belgium which has been hit by a fire. So there's a strong suspicion that a pyromaniac is on the loose. Some idiot who likes to play with fire and got some quarrel to settle or is on a blackmail mission of some kind. Maybe his Blokker ironing board snapped in two when ironing one of his boxershorts?!

An impressive photo gallery and more news of and about the fire can be found right here:

Well, I passed the Blokker twice today, on my way to my internship. Must say it’s quite a mess, with a terrible smell surrounding the area. No more SWAT-team around, just an open fence and a load of charcoal.
I still can’t see the pattern: after 9 strikes in Belgium, one would expect Dutch victems to be located in Brabant, not Hengelo (near Germany) or Krommenie (near nothing)!

Update: no terror, just old electrical wires that caused a short circuit in the adjacent building
