The Da Vinci Code
Well I've seen it. I can't deny it anymore, I've read the book and now I've seen the movie. After a pizza at Pinoccio's last night, me and some friends visited the filming of Dan Brown's best seller: The Da Vinci Code. Visitores of the IMDB (Internet Movie Database) currently give the movie a rating of 6.5 on the scale of 10. Which is an average rating, maybe even almost a low rating. And I think I have to agree on that.
First of all, while I can't be certain of this, I think the movie would be very hard to follow if you haven't already read the book. The amount of facts, details and theories is... well, a lot! Maybe even too much and too complicated to cramp in a 2 hour movie. This immediately leads to my second concern. To explain and show all these conspiracies and know-how there are scenes needed. Parts of the movie which are in my opinion rather dull. Especially if you've already seen and read about them before.
And there are some other issues which cause the movie not to impress me that much. Film locations are not new, the Louvre, churches Paris, Londen etc. Most of them all seen before in real-life. The Silas character, I don't know, but that guy 'looked' a lot scaries when I was reading the book, it's more a sort of clown now. Also I've seen Tom Hanks act better before. Where is the chemistry between 'Princess Sophie' and Robert Langdon? Where is the action, the race to find the Holy Grail, it just ain't very exciting...
Well that's just my two cents. I'm slightly disappointed, but I'm also wondering if Ron Howard could have done it better at all. Right now it is a rather accurate filming of the book. If Ron choose not to follow the book that well, the critics would have blamed him for that. And besides, does it really matter? I definitely wouldn't have missed this movie and looking at the box office figures I don't think the rest of the world doesn't want it to miss either.
By the way, did you guys and girls try to follows the leads in the trailer of this movie?

Well I found the movie a bit more interesting. I’ve also read the book, but it was quit a long time ago, so the details were a bit messed up in my head. I knew enough to follow the movie and discovered some details again which were a bit forgotten :-) But we had a great evening and that’s what it was all about.
I watched the movie last weekend too, but here in Brazil :) I must say that I had some extra puzzles since the Latin and French parts were (also) subtitled in Portugese and I understand none of those languages really good enough to follow a conversation :)
Nevertheless, I must say that I was glad that I had read the book (and I liked it more than the movie too) :P
They movie was nice and good to follow allthough the speed in which new events occured was quite high. But when you hadn’t read the book it was all good to follow. Except one small thing :-(. I think i should read the book then (just downloaded the audiobook).
