Pivot 1.4 Beta 2
It's out, the new beta version of Pivot, the backend software for my weblog, has been released last night. Normally you won't notice a thing when Pivot gets updated to a new (beta) version, but this time it's different. The new version comes packed with some new exciting features, some of them new, others already in use but powered by different means.
The tagging functionality for instance has now been merged with Pivot, where in the past it was powered by a separate extension (one of the other great features of Pivot) called 'Taggerati'. Even though the development team did a great job of making it backwards compatible, I already customized great parts of TheMarco's extension. This means that some parts of the website may seem fubar now, while I'm in the process of tweaking it back to the original layout.
Already tried clicking on an image linking to a pop up? Well refresh and try again, it now features some nifty javascript called Thickbox. Just try it and see, that's easier than for me to explain what it exactly does.
Ofcourse there are some other new features too and, not to forget, important bugfixes, but those aren't interesting for you as a visitor. For me it (hopefully) means it will make my life easier. If you're a new time user of Pivot, you are in 'luck'. It now comes with three different and newly designed default templates.
However, I'm a bit disappointed with their quality. Especially the typography isn't the standard Web 2.0 quality which can be found on the web nowadays. But hey, this might exactly be the thing bloggers might be looking for these days. Or my taste is just different.
Talking about templates, I'm almost finished with v4.0 (?) of this website. Well it's more a version 3.5, since the overall layout of the website hasn't changed. The color scheme and graphics on the other hand did! So don't be surprised when you encounter a fresh look one of these days :)
